  2. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
  3.  
  4.      Firm Plan is among the most complete schedulers available. It will handle
  5. not only your busy itinerary, but that of everyone in your office (or family).
  6. It will prepare calendars and other reports that display one person's upcoming
  7. events or those for several people simultaneously.  Data can be filtered when
  8. a report is generated, so that only events for a particular project, or only
  9. those events containing a particular word, will be displayed.
  10.  
  11.      The program's main strength is the completeness of its scheduling
  12. capacity.  Few programs even approach it in this regard, much less match
  13. it.  And, considering all it can do, the program is surprisingly easy to use.
  14. Its reports, while not as infinitely customizable as those provided by those
  15. output-oriented calendar producers with limited scheduling capability, are
  16. attractive, functional, and simple to set up.
  17.  
  18.      This program will optionally drag events forward from day to day until
  19. you tell the program to tag them for deletion.  Finding free time, establishing
  20. recurring events, and viewing religious dates (Christian, Jewish, and Muslim)
  21. are a snap for this program.  And, as a bonus, the program includes a Log
  22. module that tracks services performed, money spent, and money received.  It
  23. will even produce an Income-Expense report for any period of time you desire.

  25.      On a network or stand-alone computer, you'll find that this program will
  26. handle your scheduling needs like nothing else.  Give it a thorough work-out.

  37.      Note that a Windows 95 version of this program is available for Windows 95
  38. users.
  39.  
  40.      If you went through the automated INSTALL.BAT routine, the program files
  41. have already been placed into an INTEGRA directory on your hard disk.  If, on 
  42. the other hand, you did not go through the INSTALL.BAT routine, you should run 
  43. the SETUP.BAT routine.  Assuming your printer is attached to the LPT1 port
  44. on your computer, the command to run is 
  45.  
  46.                                 SETUP LPT1
  47.  
  48. That command will cause the files to be copied to an INTEGRA directory on your
  49. hard disk.

  52. - RUNNING THE PROGRAM -
  53.  
  54.     If you're in a hurry to see what the program is like before completing the
  55. basic setup for Windows, you may do so by using  File | Run  in the Program 
  56. Manager or by double-clicking on it in the File Manager.  The name of the file
  57. to execute is ULTIMATE.EXE.

  62. - COMPLETING THE BASIC SETUP FOR WINDOWS 3.x -
  63.  
  64.     If you'd like to access the program through its icon, complete the basic 
  65. setup for Windows 3.x (see next page for Windows 95):
  66.  
  67.        1) Go to the Program Manager.  There, you will see that most of your 
  68.           programs are organized into program "groups".  Select the program
  69.           group in which you wish to include this new program.  It doesn't 
  70.           make any difference which program within the group may be high-
  71.           lighted, as long as the group you desire is selected.
  72.  
  73.        2) Now, select  File | New  at the Program Manager menu bar.
  74.  
  75.        3) A "New Program Object" box will open.  Select Program Item and press
  76.           the OK button;
  77.  
  78.        4) A "Program Item Properties" Box will open.  Here's what you should
  79.           enter:
  80.  
  81.         Description:        (here, enter this program's name)
  82.             Command Line:       ULTIMATE.EXE
  83.                 Working Directory:    C:\INTEGRA
  84.                       (assuming that the program is on 
  85.                        drive C; if not, substitute the
  86.                        appropriate letter)
  87.         Shortcut Key:        None
  88.        5) Now, press the "Change Icon..." button.  When you do, a "Change
  89.           Icon" box will appear.  The File Name you should enter is:

  91.             C:\INTEGRA\ULTIMATE.ICO
  92.               (again assuming that the program is on
  93.                            drive C; if not, substitute the appropriate
  94.                            letter)

  96.       Press the OK buttons to save the icon and the rest of the properties
  97.           you've entered.

  99.        6) If you're a registered user, follow the "Registered Users" 
  100.           instructions found on page 6.

  102.        7) For network installation, see the section devoted to Installation in the 
  103.           program's on-line help.  Also see that section if you want the 
  104.           program to run AUTOMATICALLY whenever you load Windows.

  109. - COMPLETING THE BASIC SETUP FOR WINDOWS 95 -

  111.     If you'd like to access the program through its icon, complete the basic 
  112. setup for Windows 95:
  113.  
  114.        1) Point to the Start button on the Task Bar.  When you  RIGHT-click
  115.           the mouse, a menu will appear.  Select "Open" on the menu.
  116.  
  117.        2) A "Start Menu" box will appear.  Double-click on the "Programs" 
  118.           folder.
  119.  
  120.        3) A "Programs" box will appear, showing the sub-folders currently 
  121.           included within Programs folder.  Double-click on the folder in
  122.           which you wish to include this program.

  124.        4) A box showing the programs contained within the folder will appear.
  125.           Select   File | New   at the box's pull-down menu.  Then, select
  126.           "Shortcut" at the sub-menu that appears.

  128.        5) A "Create Shortcut" box will appear.  Into the "Command Line" item,
  129.           type

  133.        6) Then, you'll be asked to select a name or title for this program or
  134.           shortcut.  Type in anything that is meaningful to you.

  136.        7) The new program will then be added to the folder.  Point to it and
  137.           RIGHT-Click.  In the menu that appears, select "Properties".

  139.        8) A "Properties" box will appear.  Select the "Shortcut" tab and then
  140.           press the "Change Icon" button.  When the "Change Icon" box appears,
  141.           type

  147.        9) Back at the Properties box, press the "Apply" button and then the OK
  148.           button.

  155. - PRINTING THE MANUAL
  156.  
  157.     The manual consists entirely of on-line help that is organized into
  158. several "chapters" referenced in its table of contents.  Selecting "Help"  at
  159. the pull-down menu will take you into the help system, where you may search
  160. for information by keyword.  Pressing the F1 key almost anywhere within the 
  161. program will take you directly to a section of the manual that discusses that
  162. section of the program.

  164.     Printing the manual involves several steps.  First, get into the help 
  165. system ("Help" or F1).  When there, select the "Contents" button.  At the
  166. Contents page, select  File | Print.  After the Contents page has printed, 
  167. select the first topic in the Contents listing.  When that topic appears, 
  168. select  File | Print.  After that topic prints, return to the Contents page
  169. and select the next topic and print it.  Repeat this process until the entire
  170. manual has been printed.

  175. - PROBLEMS -
  176.  
  177.   VIDEO:
  178.  
  179.      -> If vertical and horizontal scroll bars appear when the program loads,
  180. your window borders may be too wide to allow enough space for this program's 
  181. screens to display in full.  Reduce the size of your window borders to 1 by 
  182. running the "Desktop" program (usually found in "Control Panel" group in 
  183. Windows' Program Manager).  Or, simply "maximize" the program on the screen.

  185.      -> If gibberish appears anywhere in the program, the problem is that the
  186. video driver you are using cannot produce all the fonts used by the program.
  187. Try another driver.  Video drivers are selected in the Windows "Setup" program
  188. (usually found in the "Main" group in the Program Manager).
  189.  
  190.      -> If text on the screen or printer seems improperly sized or does not 
  191. seem to fit neatly into the areas where it should, there are two possible 
  192. reasons:  
  193.     One possibilty is that the video driver you're using may not be 
  194. optimal.  Some drivers seem to be incapable of producing text of a selected 
  195. font at the correct size, especially at the higher resolutions.  If you have
  196. a choice between a driver that uses "large fonts" and one that uses "small
  197. fonts", choose the latter.  Video drivers are selected in the Windows "Setup"
  198. program (usually found in the "Main" group in the Program Manager).
  199.     Another possible cause of poorly fitting text is that you may be
  200. either missing some font files, or using font files that have been altered
  201. by other software.  This program relies upon the following ORIGINAL fonts
  202. supplied by Microsoft Windows:  Arial, Courier New, Terminal, MS Serif,
  203. MS Sans Serif, and System.  If they seem to be unavailable, they may be
  204. somewhere on your hard disk, but not installed.  Try using the Windows
  205. "Fonts" routine (found in the "Control Panel") to find and install (or add)
  206. them.  Also useful may be the /NT option discussed near the end of the
  207. on-line help's "Configuration" section.
  208.  
  209.   PRINTER:
  210.  
  211.      -> If fonts appear to be improperly sized, or if gibberish appears on the
  212. printout, make sure that the printer driver that you have installed into
  213. Windows is specifically matched to your EXACT printer model and that the driver
  214. was provided by the printer manufacturer, not Microsoft.  A "close" match
  215. or "emulation" may not be good enough, and Microsoft's drivers are generally
  216. less reliable than those from printer manufacturers.  If you must use Microsoft
  217. drivers, consider using one for a related printer.  If that doesn't work,
  218. try one for an earlier model in the same manufacturer's line (for instance,
  219. if you have an HP LaseJjet 4, you might get the results you desire by using
  220. a LaserJet II or LaserJet III driver).  This program does nothing fancy with
  221. your printer.  It relies ENTIRELY upon Windows to pass printing instructions
  222. through the driver to the printer.  So why do other programs appear to work
  223. with your printer and the driver you are currently using?  Perhaps because
  224. those programs don't rely upon the same Arial and Courier New fonts that
  225. this program does.  Or perhaps the other programs are somehow bypassing
  226. Windows to print directly to the printer.  Be assured that if your Windows
  227. printer driver is a good match for your printer, this program's output will
  228. be fine.

  232. - REGISTERED USERS -
  233.  
  234.      If you have registered as a user, you have a serial number printed on the
  235. distribution disk's label.  You now need to let the program know that you
  236. acknowledge your serial number.  To do so,
  237.  
  238.    1) Go to the program manager and select   File | Run   at the menu bar.
  239.  
  240.    2) At the Run box, enter
  241.   
  242.             C:\INTEGRA\ULTIMATE.EXE /RP
  243.  
  244.       at the Command Line item.  This command assumes that you have loaded the
  245.       program onto drive C.  If not, substitute the appropriate letter.  For 
  246.       instance, if you loaded the program onto drive F, 
  247.  
  248.             F:\INTEGRA\ULTIMATE.EXE /RP
  249.  
  250.       would be entered instead.
  251.  
  252.    3) When asked for your serial number, enter it.
  253.  
  254. Once you've completed this process, the program will skip the registration
  255. info screen when loading.  But you may confirm your serial number and the
  256. number of network workstations for which you are registered by selecting
  257. Help | About  at the Main Screen's menu bar when running the program.
